The Best and Worst Ads of 06 is a brief article claiming 2006 as the Year of Anti - Adverstising. Rather than hammering consumers over the head with marketing messages, ad agencies went to great lengths to make their commercials look as though they were produced by anyone other than Madison Avenue.
This is the result of new technology, specifically the digital video recorder which has empowered watchers to skip ads. Markerters figured the only way to keep the consumer watching was to notch up the entertainment over the marketing message.
Greg Stern, chief executive officer of Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners says, "You have to bring consumers in first just to be able to talk to them."
